Red imported fire ants found in South Korea

Our Distribution Database has been updated to show new detections of the red imported fire ant in South Korea

On September 28th, 2017, the red imported fire ant was detected in South Korea for the first time. It was discovered in a cargo container at a port in the city of Busan. Though the initial infestation was destroyed by South Korean officials, since then, there have been at least seven more detections, including in the port cities of Incheon and Ansan, and the inland city of Daegu.
